Building Regulations Part L, Low Energy Lighting. Any new build and some extensions have to have a proportion of the lighting installed from “Low Energy” source. Typically, this means light fittings that will ONLY take compact fluorescent lamps, LEDs or Discharge Lamps. This figure is a minimum of 30% of the lights installed. Fitting low energy lamps with normal bayonet or screw cap bases do not confirm, but you may find a sympathetic inspector who may allow some flexibility! You should always check with your building control department as to the current regulations. Information given here is a guide only. Our catalogue includes a section on Energy Efficient Light Fittings that conform. It would be wise to also speak to your local authority building control department as variations in interpreting these regulations have been experienced.
